We are happy to announce that we made the shortlist for the Small Projects (of under £1 million) award, hosted by The Structural Awards. Details of the project are down below.
Tiffany Gallery Glass Staircase
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A central feature for a new gallery housing the collection of Tiffany Lamps bequeathed to the New York Historical Society. The single flight is gently curved on plan with each tread supported on cantilever glass fins. The treads and fins are laminated from heat strengthened glass and the stainless-steel connectors have been designed to complement the minimal design aesthetic.

Judges comments
The judges were very impressed with the rigour of the analysis and prototype testing that was an integral part of the structural engineering design of this elegant glass staircase. Building on continual advances in the use of glass as a structural material, the structural engineers succeeded in pushing forward our technical understanding yet further. The level of research was made very clear in the submission, indicating the importance of physical prototyping and testing to help engineers advance their craft. The results provide an excellent showcase for intelligent engineering that will impress and amaze people who see and use this staircase.
